How to choose an anniversary bouquet
The best anniversary bouquets borrow from the relationship itself. A few places to look:
- The wedding. What colours were in the bridal bouquet? Repeating them years later is one of the most romantic things you can do with flowers, and nobody needs it explained.
- The first date. If you brought tulips then, bring tulips now.
- The house. Look at the room the flowers will live in. Soft pinks and creams sit well in a light, neutral space; deep red holds its own against dark wood and bold walls.
When in doubt, red roses are the classic for a reason. They say love without any decoding.
Pictured, Red Promise takes that classic and dresses it like a wedding bouquet: twenty-five deep red roses with baby's breath and a few sprigs of baby eucalyptus, pearls draped over the top and a pearl-wrapped handle. No wrapping paper, so it can be held the way a bride holds her flowers. For a couple who still talk about their wedding day, that detail lands.
We've written more about what colour roses suit an anniversary if you're torn between red, white and pink.

Wedding anniversary flowers by year
Most people know the paper, silver and gold anniversaries. Fewer know there's a matching list of flowers, one for each year. Like the gift list, it's tradition rather than rule, and you'll find slightly different versions depending on where you look. Our guide below follows the one most often quoted.
It's a handy tool when you're stuck. A third anniversary? Sunflowers, which say warmth and loyalty and happen to be cheerful in any kitchen. A fifteenth? Roses, which makes life easy. A twelfth? Peonies, which are at their best in late spring and early summer, so the date matters.
Some of these are tricky as cut flowers (lily of the valley has a very short season, and violets are more at home in a garden), so think of the list as a starting point for colour and mood. If a year's flower is hard to find, choose its colour, or pair a classic rose bouquet with a card that mentions the tradition.
For the longer story behind each year, read our anniversary flowers by year article.
Flowers for a parent's 25th, 40th or 50th
Big anniversaries are often celebrated by the kids, not the couple. If you're organising flowers for your parents' silver or golden anniversary, a few things help.
Go big, but match the room. A milestone deserves presence. Full Moon, pictured, is one hundred and fifty white roses shaped into a dome you hold with both arms, with an ivory, cream-centred look that suits a 25th or a 50th. If the celebration is a dinner at home, think about where it will sit before you order something that large.
Coordinate with siblings. One generous bouquet signed by everyone usually looks better than four medium ones arriving at different times. Put every name on the card.
Deliver before the party. Schedule a date at checkout, ideally the day before or the morning of, so the flowers are settled and opened by the time guests arrive. Choose the morning window if it's the same day.
If you're planning a bigger family gathering and want flowers on the tables too, our celebrations page is the place to start that conversation.

Traditional anniversary flowers by year
Lists vary between sources, and some years have two candidates. This is the version you'll see most often.
- 01
1st: carnation
Young, bold love that lasts. Carnations are also one of the longest-lasting cut flowers, which feels right for year one.
- 02
2nd: lily of the valley
Sweetness and humility. Some lists give cosmos for the second year instead.
- 03
3rd: sunflower
Warmth, loyalty and devotion, for the year things start to feel settled.
- 04
4th: hydrangea
Gratitude and deep feeling, in big generous heads. Some lists give geranium.
- 05
5th: daisy
Simple, cheerful and faithful. A sweet choice when the wooden anniversary gift is already sorted.
- 06
10th: daffodil
Joy and new starts: one decade done, the next one beginning.
- 07
11th: tulip
Deep, lasting love, especially in red. Tulips keep growing after they're cut, so give them a tall vase.
- 08
12th: peony
Traditionally linked with honour, good fortune and a happy marriage. Peonies are at their best in late spring and early summer.
- 09
15th: rose
The classic, in whatever colour suits the two of you. Red for romance, white for a quieter kind of devotion.
- 10
25th: iris
Faith, hope and wisdom for the silver anniversary. Blue and purple tones work well beside silver.
- 11
30th: lily
Purity and devotion. Some lists give the lily to the 30th, others give the calla lily to the 6th.
- 12
50th: yellow rose and violet
Yellow roses for joy, violets for faithfulness: a natural pairing for the golden anniversary.

What flowers are traditional for a wedding anniversary?
Red roses are the most common anniversary flower, since they're the classic symbol of romantic love. There's also a traditional list of flowers by year, such as carnations for the first, sunflowers for the third and roses for the fifteenth. The list varies a little by source.
What colour roses are best for an anniversary?
Red is the safe, romantic choice. White roses suit a longer marriage or a quieter style, and pink feels tender and a little playful. Mixing red and white is also popular. If your wedding had a colour scheme, matching it is a lovely touch.
How many roses should I give for an anniversary?
A dozen is the classic, and 25 feels generous. Many people match a number to the occasion or simply go big for a milestone. Heart and Wing, for example, comes in 25, 50, 75 or 100 red roses, so you can choose the size that fits.
Can I schedule anniversary flowers for a specific date?
Yes. Choose the delivery date at checkout, then pick a morning, afternoon or anytime window. If you forgot until today, order by 1 pm and we can usually deliver the same day to most postal codes in York Region and Toronto.
Can I send anniversary flowers to their office?
Yes, and it's a good way to make a fuss in front of an audience. Include the company name and the floor or suite number with the address. The morning window gives them the whole day to enjoy the flowers at their desk.
What flowers do you send on the anniversary of a death?
Soft, calm colours usually feel right: white roses, lilies or pale pink blooms. A short card that names the person helps the family know they're remembered. Our sympathy collection has quieter designs suited to a remembrance anniversary.
