When is Mother's Day in Canada, and when should you order?
In Canada, Mother's Day falls on the second Sunday in May. It's the same day as in the US, which is why the whole continent seems to want flowers that weekend.
For florists, it's one of the busiest weekends of the year. The most popular designs and colours go first, and delivery schedules fill up fast. So our honest advice is simple: order early, and choose your delivery date at checkout. A week or two ahead is ideal. You'll get the design you actually want instead of whatever is left.
A few other things worth knowing:
- Think about delivering a day or two early. If the family is gathering for Sunday brunch, flowers that arrive before the weekend have time to open and will already be on the table when everyone walks in. Lilies and tulips especially look better on day two.
- Pick a window. Morning, afternoon or anytime. If she's usually out in the morning, an afternoon window is a safer bet.
- Want it on the day itself? We're open on Sundays, so Mother's Day can be booked at checkout while that date is still open. Ordering early is what keeps it open for you.
We can't promise availability or same-day delivery on Mother's Day itself, so please don't leave it to the morning of.
Choosing flowers for your mom
You know her better than any florist does, so start there. What colours are in her house? Does she keep a vase on the kitchen table, or does every bouquet end up in a water jug because she can't find one?
If she loves flowers but hates fussing, choose something that arrives ready to display. Garden Gate Basket, pictured, is a wooden slatted basket filled to overflowing with pink and white hydrangea, lilac daisies and pink alstroemeria, with snapdragons or stock at the back and a sheer pink bow trailing off the side. She doesn't need to cut a stem. Parlour Posy and Mauve Pedestal come set in vases too, and the rest of our vase arrangements are worth a look.
If she's a gardener, go loose and natural. Apricot Sherbet is a garden-feel bouquet of pink and peach roses with buttery stock reaching up on tall spires.
If she has a sense of humour, Petal Handbag is a little quilted purse with a gold chain handle, filled with seasonal mixed flowers. It makes people smile on sight.
If she's simply a tulip person, don't overthink it. Tulip Armful is thirty mixed tulips in premium wrap. Browse more in our tulip collection.

Helping Mother's Day flowers last into the week
The best Mother's Day flowers are still looking good on Thursday. A little care makes that happen, and you can mention these tips to her (or leave them on the card if she's the type who likes instructions).
Lilies: Lily Haze, pictured, is pink oriental lilies with baby's breath, some fully open and some still in tall closed buds. Those buds open over the following days, so the bouquet changes all week. Pull off the orange pollen as each flower opens, since it stains tablecloths and clothes. And if she has a cat, choose something else: lilies are highly toxic to cats, even in small amounts.
Tulips: they keep growing after they're cut and bend towards the light. Use a tall vase, and turn it every day or so if they start leaning.
Everything else: recut the stems at an angle, use clean water, and change it every couple of days. Keep the flowers away from heaters, sunny windowsills and the fruit bowl.
If budget is a factor this year, we have a range of flowers under $100, and our fresh flower care guide has more tips.

Flowers for every mother in your life
Mother's Day reaches further than one person for a lot of families. A few ideas for the different mothers you might be thinking about.
- 01
Your mom
Go with her favourite colour, even if it isn't yours. If she always says she doesn't need anything, send flowers anyway.
- 02
Grandmother
Soft pinks, lilacs and a design that arrives in a vase or basket are usually the safest bet. Fragrance is a bonus.
- 03
Mother-in-law
Classic and polished works best: roses in soft colours or a tidy vase arrangement. Sign it from both of you.
- 04
A new mom
Her first Mother's Day is a big one. Keep it compact and easy, since her hands are full. Avoid lilies if there's a cat in the house.
- 05
Stepmom
A bouquet on Mother's Day can mean a lot when the relationship is something you've both worked on. A simple, warm card is enough.
- 06
A friend who's a mom
Something bright and cheerful, like tulips or sunflowers, with a note that says you see how much she does.
- 07
Someone missing their mom
Mother's Day can be hard after a loss. Gentle colours and a card that mentions her mother by name can be a real comfort.

When is Mother's Day in Canada?
Mother's Day in Canada is on the second Sunday in May, the same day as in the United States. It's one of the busiest weekends of the year for florists, so it's worth ordering a week or two ahead and choosing your delivery date at checkout.
Do you deliver Mother's Day flowers across Canada?
No. We deliver across York Region and Toronto from our studio in Oak Ridges, Richmond Hill. If your mom lives in Newmarket, Markham, Vaughan, Aurora or nearby, we'd love to deliver to her. For other parts of Canada, a florist local to her is the best choice.
Can I get same-day delivery on Mother's Day?
We can't promise availability or same-day delivery on Mother's Day itself, because demand that weekend is so high. The safest plan is to order early and schedule a date at checkout. If the date no longer shows at checkout, call us at (437) 291-5605 and we'll tell you what we can do.
What are traditional Mother's Day flowers?
Carnations are the traditional Mother's Day flower. When the day was first celebrated in the early 1900s, white carnations were handed out in honour of mothers. Today roses, tulips, lilies and soft mixed bouquets are just as popular.
Are lilies safe if my mom has a cat?
No. All parts of true lilies, including the pollen and the vase water, are highly toxic to cats. If there's a cat in the house, choose roses, tulips or a mixed bouquet without lilies instead.
Will the flowers look exactly like the photo?
They'll match the design, colours and size. Some designs, like Florist's Palette and Parlour Posy, are built from what looks best that day. If a stem isn't at its best, we swap it for one of equal or higher value in the same colours.
