Daffodil: Sunshine Blooms You Can Buy in Toronto
/2 min read

What makes daffodils a favourite spring flower in Toronto
Daffodils (genus Narcissus) are the flower that tells you winter is nearly over. Bunches turn up in shops in late winter, weeks before anything blooms in Toronto gardens, and they're one of the cheapest ways to buy flowers in Toronto that make a room feel like spring. Traditionally they stand for hope and new beginnings. April is also Daffodil Month for the Canadian Cancer Society. Caring for your daffodils at home
Trim the stems at an angle, change the water every other day and keep the vase away from radiators and sunny windows. Cut daffodils usually last about a week. Buy them in tight bud and they'll open at home within a day or two.
Freshly cut daffodils leak a sap that shortens the life of other flowers. If you want to mix them into a bouquet, stand them in their own water for several hours first, then add them to the arrangement without cutting them again. Daffodils are also toxic to cats and dogs, so keep them out of reach. This video has more care tips:
Buying daffodils locally in Toronto
To be upfront, daffodils aren't part of our range right now. You'll find them in grocery stores and at flower markets across the city from late winter through spring. Pick firm stems and closed buds, and skip any with slimy stem ends.
If you want that spring feeling delivered, tulips and ranunculus are what we'd send instead. Both are in our range, and we offer same-day flower delivery in Toronto and across York Region when you order by 1 pm, for most postal codes.
