Red Rose Bouquet Delivery: The Classic Way to Express Love and Appreciation
/7 min read

Red rose bouquet delivery is about as close to a sure thing as gifts get. Red roses mean love, everyone knows it, and nobody has ever opened the door to a dozen of them and wondered what you were getting at. They work for anniversaries, Valentine's Day, birthdays, proposals and the random Tuesday when you just want to say it.
We design every order by hand in our studio in Oak Ridges, at the north end of Richmond Hill, and deliver across York Region and Toronto, from Newmarket and Markham down to the city. Our flower delivery services for romantic bouquets start in the love and romance collection.
Below: what red roses mean, when to send them, how to pick the right bouquet, and how to keep them going once they arrive.
Why red roses became the symbol of love
Red roses have been tied to romance for centuries, from Greek and Roman myth through the Victorian language of flowers. Red is the colour of strong feeling, and a rose is the flower everyone recognizes, so the pairing stuck.
People send red roses to say:
- I love you
- I admire you
- I'm committed to this
- Thank you, in the most serious way
One stem or five dozen, the meaning is the same. The size just changes how loudly you're saying it.
Why people choose red rose bouquet delivery
Most of us don't have time to get to a florist in person, and some of us are sending flowers to someone across town or across the region. Ordering online for delivery fixes that.
Convenience
You pick the bouquet, the date and the delivery window at checkout, and you're done in a few minutes. Same-day orders, future dates, morning or afternoon: all handled on the same page.
Freshness
We design every order by hand from that day's flowers, so the bouquet isn't sitting in a cooler for days before it leaves. If a rose isn't up to standard, we swap it for one of equal or higher value in the same colour.
Same-day delivery options
Order by 1 pm and we can deliver the same day to most postal codes in York Region and Toronto. Handy when the anniversary sneaks up on you.
A personal message
Add a gift message at checkout and we tuck it in with the flowers. Prices are never included with the flowers.
Occasions for red rose bouquet delivery
Anniversaries
Anniversaries are the most obvious reason to send red roses. Year one or year forty, they say the relationship still matters. Good choices:
- A dozen red roses
- Two dozen roses
- Long-stem roses
- Large rose designs from our luxury collection

Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is the busiest stretch of the year for any florist, and red roses are what most people want. Order early, and book the date ahead at checkout if you can. Our Valentine's Day flowers page is the place to start.
Birthdays
For a partner's birthday, red roses make the day feel romantic as well as festive. If they're not a roses person, a mix of red and pink with something bright in it keeps the birthday feel.
Engagements and proposals
Red roses show up at a lot of proposals, waiting at home or delivered to the restaurant earlier in the day. If it's a surprise, put a note in the order about who might answer the door.
Just because
Roses with no occasion attached often land harder than roses on Valentine's Day, because nobody's expecting them.
Choosing the right red rose bouquet
The right bouquet depends on the occasion and how big a statement you want to make.
One dozen red roses
The standard. Twelve roses is the count most people picture, and it fits anniversaries, Valentine's Day and romantic surprises without feeling over the top.
Premium long-stem roses
Long stems look dramatic in a tall vase and suit a proposal, a milestone anniversary or a formal dinner. Check the recipient has a vase that can actually hold them.
Mixed rose arrangements
Red with white, pink or blush roses softens the look and adds meaning: white for commitment, pink for gratitude. It's a good choice if a solid red bouquet feels too intense for where you are as a couple.
Luxury rose collections
For a big milestone, several dozen roses in one design make the point without a word. These start in our luxury collection. Our roses page has the full range.
Ordering love & romantic flowers online
Wide selection
Online you can see every design side by side, with photos, which is more than most small shops can show you on a counter.
Easy comparison
You can compare stem counts, colours and prices before you decide, without anyone hovering.
Secure ordering
Payment happens at checkout, and the recipient never sees what you spent.
Scheduled deliveries
You can book a birthday or anniversary delivery weeks ahead at checkout, then forget about it until the day.
How a florist builds a romantic bouquet
Flower quality
A good rose has a firm head, petals that aren't browning at the edges, and a stem that's straight and strong. The outer "guard" petals often look a little rough; florists usually take a few off before the rose goes in the bouquet.
Design balance
Roses go in at slightly different heights so you see each head rather than a flat dome. Greenery fills the gaps and keeps the heads from crushing each other.
Seasonal availability
Roses are available all year, but other flowers come and go. A red rose bouquet in June might have peonies in it; in December it might have hypericum berries.
Presentation
How the bouquet is wrapped matters for the first impression, but what matters for the week after is water. A bouquet that's been hydrated properly will last much longer than one that's been sitting dry.
Red roses and their meaning by number
The number of roses has its own meaning, traditionally:
Single red rose
Love at first sight, or a simple "I'm thinking of you."
Twelve red roses
Complete love and commitment. The classic dozen.
Twenty-four roses
Deep devotion, and the sense that you're all in.
Fifty or more roses
A grand gesture, usually saved for a major milestone or a proposal.
One more thing on numbers: in Russia and parts of Eastern Europe, even numbers of flowers are for funerals. If the person you're sending to grew up with that tradition, a single rose or an odd number is the safer choice.

Tips for making your flower gift more memorable
Include a personal message
Even a single line helps. "Same as always, only more" beats "Happy anniversary" every time.
Bring the chocolates yourself
Flowers and chocolates go together, but chocolates from a shop you both like, handed over in person, mean more than a box bundled with the order.
Choose same-day delivery
A bouquet that turns up unannounced at work in the afternoon gets a bigger reaction than one that was obviously planned.
Go up a size
More stems or longer stems make a bigger impression, and a fuller bouquet tends to hold its shape longer as individual heads open.
Pair flowers with another gift
Jewellery, a bottle of wine or concert tickets go well with flowers. Let the bouquet arrive first and save the other gift for later.
Caring for red roses after delivery
A few minutes of care adds days to a rose bouquet:
- Cut about 2 cm off each stem at an angle before it goes in the vase.
- Change the water every two days and recut if you can.
- Remove any leaves that sit below the waterline.
- Keep the vase out of direct sun and away from heating vents.
- Keep it away from the fruit bowl; ripening fruit makes flowers age faster.
With that, red roses usually last a week or more. Our guide to making fresh flowers last longer has more.
Why red rose bouquet delivery hasn't gone out of style
Gift trends come and go. Red roses don't, because the message is so clear. They say love without needing a card to explain it, they fit almost any romantic occasion, and they look good on any table. A dozen red roses means exactly what it meant fifty years ago.
